For those who have civil legal issues preventing them from turning their lives around, we offer the Homeless Justice Project. Led by two staff attorneys and a legal assistant overseeing volunteer attorneys and students, the Homeless Justice Project provides civil legal services to homeless Veterans, individuals and families. Attorneys working on behalf of One80 Place have an understanding of the unique problems homeless citizens face, such as unstable living conditions, possible mental health and substance abuse issues, and a lack of understanding of legal rights. One80 Place is unique among the nation’s homeless shelters in that it has a full-time, on-site legal team dedicated to offering legal services to individuals on a daily basis.
Our legal team serves an average of 500 guests per year. More than half of our cases involve Veterans seeking assistance obtaining benefits and other VA services. Funding for the Homeless Justice Project is provided by the South Carolina Bar Foundation and through private donations.
