Beginning Again

You provide a chance to begin again.

Stefan, a Coast Guard Veteran, returned home to Charleston to help his elderly parents. Little did he know he would not have a place to stay when he arrived. Through the VA, Stefan was directed to One80 Place.

While at One80 Place, Stefan enrolled in One80 Place Training, our 5-week culinary training program. He became ServSafe certified, learned important culinary terms and skills, and had the opportunity to volunteer at Charleston Wine + Food Festival. On the last day of the festival, Stefan went from tent to tent, meeting chefs from different restaurants, volunteering to help, and trying to learn as much as possible. Fate stepped in when he approached the tent of Smoke BBQ and met Chef Roland Feldman.

Chef Feldman offered Stefan a job on the spot. Shortly after, a cornbread recipe mix-up that Stefan made at Smoke BBQ would turn into one of the biggest opportunities of his life. Just a year after graduating One80 Place’s program, Stefan is opening his own cornbread company.

One80 Place means opportunity. They help you sustain your life. If you hit a bump in the road, come here. They will bend over backwards to help you. They gave me a new beginning.
