Program Spotlight

You create job opportunities.

When you see Porcher Washington’s job title, Employment Specialist, you probably don’t fully picture everything she does. You likely wouldn’t think that Porcher evaluates every single client at One80 Place to make sure they are a good candidate for the different employment programs available to them. The reality is that Porcher does everything she can to remove roadblocks preventing clients ( those who are able) from working. On any given day, Porcher is: helping clients access child care services; assisting clients with interviewing skills, career readiness, and workplace etiquette; performing job searches and placements; negotiating salaries with potential employers; and providing case management. To put it simply, she’s a busy woman and the result was 261 gainfully employed clients last year.

Porcher says the most difficult part of her job is convincing employers to pay a livable wage. “Monetary gain for housing accessibility is what I’m for.”

I could give five millions reasons why I love my job, but the best part is helping people achieve the goals that they never thought were possible and walking them through the process to become as successful as they can possibly be.
