Program Spotlight

You make outreach possible.

If you say the name “Roxanne” at One80 Place, you’ll be greeted with a smile.

Roxanne Harris has never met a stranger – at least, they’re not a stranger for long. She’s a self-described “outdoor person.” Her laugh will make you laugh. She likes to wake up at 5 A.M. She is, overall, a happy-go-lucky person. Roxanne is, in essence, the perfect candidate for outreach work.

Roxanne began working at One80 Place on November 26, 2011, after relocating from the Bronx, NY. Prior to working at One80 Place, Roxanne spent years working in Human Services, providing assessments for the city’s “Back to Work” program and helping individuals working through substance abuse issues gain employment and get back on their feet. Now, Roxanne can be seen hitting the pavement all over Charleston in search of unsheltered individuals in need of One80 Place’s services.

I just love what I do. The best part of my job is being able to see someone walk through our doors homeless and then walk out those doors into their apartment.

-Roxanne

Roxanne describes Charleston as a lovely place to live. “I can see why a lot of people transition here. The only thing we lack is the resources for people to stabilize themselves if they’ve had a hardship.”

Her advice to clients: “Don’t leave until you get what you came for.” She reminds clients that homelessness is a brief moment in their life and that One80 Place offers services to help them move past that moment, begin again, and truly succeed in life.
