Have questions about affordable housing plans for 573 Meeting St?

What are the plans for the property at 573 Meeting Street?

One80 Place recently received approval from the City of Charleston to rezone the property to allow for a mixed-use building.  As a mixed-use development, apartments, office and potentially retail spaces will be incorporated into the project.  The project will also go a long way toward meeting the needs of a population often overlooked by other types of affordable housing.

 Do you have designs?

The rezoning for the project has been approved by the city’s Planning Commissions, but there is no design yet. We are taking the process one step at a time to secure the necessary approvals prior to investing in design work.

Who are you partnered with?

We have partnered with the South Carolina Community Loan Fund to bring expertise in financing and the development of affordable housing.  SCCLF began as the Lowcountry Housing Trust and is dedicated to projects that provide housing, access to food and essential services, attract businesses, employ community members and stimulate economic activity.  Learn more about SCCLF at scclf.org.

What is the timetable?

An exact timeline has not been developed.  We hope the project is completed in no more than 3-5 years.

Is this the first of its kind?

There are similar projects in many communities across the country.  This is the only project in the Charleston area dedicated to truly affordable housing available for people moving out of homelessness.  As a mixed-use project, our goal is to incorporate housing that appeals to people of all income levels.

What is the next step?

We are working through the various City of Charleston zoning, planning and development processes.

Who do we refer further questions to?
