As a five-year road map to address affordable housing in the City of Charleston comes to an end, the city wants the public’s input on the next five years.

Members of the community are invited to take part in a 2020 Community Needs Survey which addresses prioritization of housing, resources to combat homelessness, infrastructure and community development.

According to city leaders, the consolidated plan will provide a new five-year road map for future federal funding use, and the analysis of impediments will evaluate the city’s laws, ordinances, statutes and administrative policies, as well as local conditions that affect the location, availability, and accessibility of housing.

Stacey Denaux, CEO of One80 Place, a homeless shelter in downtown Charleston says current city administration has done a better job shedding light on affordable housing issues than previous ones. She adds, however, the city needs to focus its shift on finding affordable housing for all income.
