DONOR PROFILE
“It reminds me of home.” Sarah describes Charleston as a tight-knit community, full of kindness and surrounded by beauty. It’s a little bit of everything and a lot like her hometown in Central Illinois. Knowing this, you’ll understand why her move from New York to the Lowcountry was inevitable.
Four years ago, Sarah and husband Korey decided to make their dream a reality and bought a home in Summerville. They would come down a week at a time every month. In 2014, they were introduced to One80 Place through their church. Sarah immediately connected with the mission. “It’s not just a shelter. One80 Place brings in people and turns lives around.”
Right away, Sarah started a recurring donation and signed up online to volunteer. “Truthfully, I’ve been blessed with the time and resources to do good, and that’s what I try to do. I wish I could do more.”
We’re incredibly fortunate that Sarah is great at doing good. She’s in the kitchen every opportunity she gets, she stays up to date on any urgently needed items through social media and e-newsletters, and her monthly gifts make a huge difference in our guests’ lives. This summer, Sarah and Korey made their move south permanent. Good news? Great news!
Her advice to you, “Set up a recurring gift that way it’s just done. It makes homelessness a priority. However much you can do per month, do it.”
