Beginning Again

YOU PROVIDE A CHANCE TO BEGIN AGAIN.

Stephen* thought his life would be different when he relocated to Charleston from Georgia to live with extended family. As an 18-year-old trying to navigate adulthood, Stephen found himself on the streets after plans with his family fell through. Along with being homeless, Stephen was battling medical issues derived from being diabetic. He couldn’t get access to the medication he needed, and time was ticking.

One80 Place’s outreach team engaged Stephen for several weeks before being able to connect him with a local youth project. Through his connection with an outreach coordinator, Aaron, Stephen was able to avoid going to a shelter altogether and started receiving the medical assistance he needed. “Sometimes we are an individual’s only lifeline in their situation,” Aaron said. “I love the feeling of someone being able to call us and we are there to help devise a plan we both work on to end their homelessness.”

Stephen is continuing to work with the youth program to find the best housing solution while working a consistent and reliable job.
